China Censors YouTube

Techcrunch is shining light on the Chinese Government's censorship of YouTube in response to the posting of video depicting their violent crackdown on Tibetan Protesters . Google has a long history of bowing to Chinese Censorship by allowing the Chinese Government to censor the Google.cn domain and removing references to the historical Tiananmen Square Massacre.

In fairness to Google, they have no option (other than not operating at all in China) but to bow down to the Chinese Government. Is cooperating with censorship evil if there is no alternative? In Google's groupthink, apparently it is not. This only means that the internet community must continue to find decentralized, anonymous and secure ways of disseminating information to all people of the world. It is my hope that blogging and decentralized community building software such as drupal can help lead the way for a truly free internet. If you have any ideas on how we can use technology to ensure freedom of speech and press please share them in the comments below!
