I came across a very interesting new site today while investigating the Advanced Forum module for drupal. Shell Social Network Playground is a site designed to show how Drupal can be used to make a social networking site.

One of Drupal's barriers to success, I believe, has been the difficulty in finding out what cool modules are out there and what can do. Sites like the Playground help to bridge this gap and at the same time provide a cool social community for drupal developers to play around in and experiment.
